2000 Years of Female Arts in South America 2 - 23 Mar 2023The exhibition Continuities celebrates the creative virtuosity’s and empowered achievements of Brazilian female artists of the 20th and 21st centuries contrasted with an important collection of Andean Pre-Columbian textile arts that inspired many of these modernist Brazilian artists as Mira Schendel, Jandyra Waters, Delba Marcolini and Sachiko Koshikoku. This selection of works foregrounds the unique role played by these artists in the development of modern and contemporary art in Brazil. All works as exhibited are realised by women artists from the ancient world to the modern era, the selection of modern paintings and textiles attests to the presence of the creative ingenuity in both Brazil and the ancient Andean regions that spans a time frame of 2000 years is testament to the enduring accomplishments of these female innovators to express themselves in a most poetic and sophisticated abstract manner. It illustrates that women were more than contributors to the developments of visual arts in Brazil, they were a driving force of Brazilian art in the 20th century.Read more
