Carolina Aguirre (b. 1990, Chile) lives and works in London. Working directly on the floor to dismantle hierarchies of surface and gesture, Aguirre builds layered paintings using natural pigments and bodily imprints that dissolve the boundary between the human and the environment. Her process resembles the act of gardening or excavating, incising generational memories of migration directly into the support. In this sense, the Semperian Hand becomes a visceral, biological lining: the final and most fundamental shelter we inhabit.
She holds a BA in Graphic Design and Moving Image from UAL Central Saint Martins and an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art (2023), where she was awarded the Basil H. Alkazzi Scholarship.
Her recent exhibitions include It Murmurs, solo, Palmer Gallery, London (2026); Body Takes, solo, Ruttkowski;68, Düsseldorf (2025); Seismic Love, solo, Ruttkowski;68, Paris (2024); Remember member ember, Lismore Castle Arts, Ireland (2024); Embodied Forms, Thaddaeus Ropac, London (2023); Land, Sea, Air, Palmer Gallery, London (2023); and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London.
