The Nazca/Huari textile artists used in detail two different elements that were the central features of Huari textiles: the profile figure and the stepped symbol. Two techniques were used by the Nazca/Huari weavers to create these motifs: the upright stripe and matching figures.

Jean Dubuffet, Paul Klee and Rashid Johnston all captured this magical otherworldly shamanic animation in the 20th and 21st centuries.

The depiction in Andean art of a sacred individual holding a staff or similar instrument in his hand continued long after the time of Chavín. The so-called 'Gate of the Sun' at the site of Tiwanaku, by Lake Titicaca in modern-day Bolivia, is 748 miles (about 1200 km) from Chavín.
